How we got started

Back in 2015, I was part of a young adult group that was associated with both Sheffield Hallam and the University of Sheffield, Every Thursday we would get together in a local church for discussions about the finer points of life and as well as some games. This really was a great time. I loved the people I would hang around and each week we would take turns organizing what games we would play.

I had a few Nerf Guns.

It started off as one activity, I had around 10 guns, one of my friends had about 10 and another friend had considerably more than ten. I asked them to bring these for a bit of a Nerf night. And that was it. Not only was I hooked but so were my friends. Whenever it came to my turn to organize what games or activities we were going to do, not only was it expected that I would throw a nerf night, it was desired. We would often have new people or people who did not turn up regularly for these nights. This also led to a bit of an addiction.

I kept buying Nerf guns.

Well, some of my friends also donated Nerf guns to these nights. But that surely didn’t stop me from buying more and more.

On these nights we would play some team games, some free for all games but the absolutely most popular one we would play was Zombie Nerf and to this day Zombie Nerf is still my absolute favourite. With this church we would play it, the corridor circled around as a sports hall and you know the actual churchy bit. So this building was perfect for getting from one side to the other.

Some people would be designated Humans, They had Nerf guns. and the rest Zombies. Who chased the humans, if a Human was caught they would become a Zombie and immediately try and tag the remaining Humans. And if a Human shot a zombie, depending on the game and the zombies would either go to a respawn point and try and sneak around or they would stand still for 5 seconds giving the humans a chance to get away.

These games were intense! but this is how I got addicted to Nerf.

It wasn’t long until other organizations similar to ours were asking me to run their nerf events, and I started charging them. And it wasn’t long until I was doing Kids parties.

It’s been 4 years since my first kids Nerf Party. and I have since never looked back.
